In Theaters Today 8 Years Ago: Pride & Prejudice starring Keira Knightley & Matthew Macfadyen

About 8 years ago (November 23, 2005) today, the 6-time BAFTA (including a WIN for director Joe Wright, which he won the Carl Foreman Award for the Most Promising Newcomer and a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Brenda Blethyn), 2-time Golden Globes (including Best Actress nomination for Keira Knightley), and 4-time Oscar nominated film (including Best Actress in a Leading Role nomination for Keira Knightley) Pride & Prejudice starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen was released in U.S. theaters nationwide release (after its select cities debut early November 11th, which it debuted at #10 in limited release of 215 screens in a few select cities) with a strong $2.8+ million on its first opening weekend, and according to Box Office Mojo (with an average of $13,325). Its production budget was reportedly $28 million (estimated). Twelve days later, on the 23rd of November, it expanded to a nationwide US theatrical release with an even more impressive $7,158,119 (#7, rank, 1, 299 theaters, $5,510 average). Its UK Cinema release anniversary was two months ago (September 16th), where it debuted at #1 with £2,529,947 (on 397 screens). With a $38.4 million domestic gross (and $82.7 million in foreign gross making its worldwide total of $121,147, 947), it spent a 112 days/16 weeks of theatrical release here in the U.S. Read more figures and stats here for P&P movie!



The glorious world of Jane Austen is at last brought back to the big screen in all its romance, wit, and emotional force in Pride & Prejudice. Faithful to the setting and period of the beloved novel and filmed entirely on location in the U.K., this is the first movie version of the story in 65 years.

The classic tale of love and misunderstanding unfolds in class-conscious England near the close of the 18th century. The five Bennet sisters – Elizabeth, or Lizzie (Keira Knightley), Jane (Rosamund Pike), Lydia (Jena Malone), Mary (Talulah Riley), and Kitty (Carey Mulligan) – have been raised well aware of their mother's (two-time Academy Award nominee Brenda Blethyn) fixation on finding them husbands and securing set futures. The spirited and intelligent Elizabeth, however, strives to live her life with a broader perspective, as encouraged by her doting father (two-time Golden Globe Award winner Donald Sutherland).

When wealthy bachelor Mr. Bingley (Simon Woods) takes up residence in a nearby mansion, the Bennets are abuzz. Amongst the man's sophisticated circle of London friends and the influx of young militia officers, surely there will be no shortage of suitors for the Bennet sisters. Eldest daughter Jane, serene and beautiful, seems poised to win Mr. Bingley's heart. For her part, Lizzie meets with the handsome and - it would seem - snobbish Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), and the battle of the sexes is joined.

Their encounters are frequent and spirited yet far from encouraging. Lizzie finds herself even less inclined to accept a marriage proposal from a distant cousin, Mr. Collins (Tom Hollander), and – supported by her father – stuns her mother and Mr. Collins by declining. When the heretofore good-natured Mr. Bingley abruptly departs for London, devastating Jane, Lizzie holds Mr. Darcy culpable for contributing to the heartbreak. But a crisis involving youngest sister Lydia soon opens Lizzie's eyes to the true nature of her relationship with Mr. Darcy.

The ensuing rush of feelings leaves no one unchanged, and inspires the Bennets and everyone around them to reaffirm what is most important in life.

Today ( January 27th ) is the lovely and ethereally beautiful,  Golden Globe ,  BAFTA , Academy Award nominee  for  Best Actress  (for her outstanding performance as  Amy Dunne  in  Gone Girl ) and Emmy Award winner  Rosamund Pike  (aka  Pride & Prejudice 2005 's very own  Jane Bennet )'s  42nd Birthday ! Or is it?!?! Miss Pike herself just posted on her official Instagram page that today is her internet birthday (and somewhat not her real birthday)! Well, color me surprised (much like her P&P co-star Rupert Friend’s birthday confusion...) as I’ve been celebrating her birthday on this day for years, lol. I blame her IMDB and Wiki pages for not providing her real birthdate, if her actual birthday is, in fact not today! Although there’s that one time it was listed on the 28th, but for years and even now it’s still listed as the 27th! Which is correct?  Unless, Miss Pike can clarify and correct that..for now, I’ll continue to celebrate her internet birthday today! Still,

Our P&P (2005) movie's 10th Year Anniversary event here continues... One of the many things I love about Pride & Prejudice ( 2005 ) movie is the memorable and quotable quotes (and dialogue ). I know pretty much every line/quote uttered by various characters in this movie by heart. There isn't just one to remember because there are so many unforgettable quotes and one-liners from this movie. For my Top 10 Favorite Pride & Prejudice Movie Quotes here, it was very hard to pick and just narrow it down to 10, but that's the point of making a top 10 list. I know I left out a lot, but I managed to pick 10 that I can quote instantly and love the most. Obviously, the top 2 are a fan favorite, but mine too. P&P Movie Script

I was looking through old threads over at IMDB a while back and I found a link to the P&P 2005 movie script ... from an awesome JA/P&P fanfiction related site called, Mrs. Darcy's Story Site . I've read the entire script from this site. It seemed accurate with deleted scenes included! (though there were spelling errors on some of the lines...just a lil' typo here and there)... Btw, the webmistress at Mrs. Darcy's site has added her comments to the script comparing this draft with what was actually released on film , which I thought was quite interesting (especially the deleted scenes from the movie ). It was a lot of fun to read. I thought I would keep the link and post it here (a lil' excerpt here) for those of you might be interested in reading this or have been looking for the P&P movie script/transcript online.
