While Pride and Prejudice/Austen fandom had been reacting strongly negative to a rumored Netflix P&P series in development, there’s yet another new P&P retelling on its early development titled “Pride” from Alloy Entertainment and The Obama’s Higher Ground Productions producing! Meanwhile, whatever happened to “Netherfield Girls”?! This was the first contemporary P&P adaptation, a Netflix romcom movie that was announced as in development back in 2021 with “Never Have I Ever” star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan reportedly cast as Lizzie Bennet. Currently, there’s no new update on this one.  Since we’re at it with these recent news of P&P TV & Film adaptations in the works, here’s a list of currently in development (including those in development for years now)…

Two Pride and Prejudice related book and movie news... Longbourn (Feature Film) and Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe (TV Christmas Movie). First, here's a bit of an update on the long in development feature film, I posted almost four years ago here: Focus Features acquired feature film rights for Pride and Prejudice spinoff 'Longbourn' . This movie is now listed (on IMDB) as being on pre-production (very recently updated this January 27th) and looks to be slated to released for sometime this year. No casting news and filming info. as of yet. For now, here's a little info...

According to Variety , Random House Studios and Focus Features ( Pride & Prejudice , Atonement , Anna Karenina ) have acquired feature film rights to Jo Baker's new novel " Longbourn ," based on the servant characters in Jane Austen 's "Pride and Prejudice . " Hmm, interesting...with Focus Features picking up the film's rights...I wonder if Betsy , the Bennet family 's house maid (in Pride & Prejudice 2005 film) is in this movie as the main lead with other Bennet servants like Mr. & Mrs. Hill , lol. Well, as the Variety article and Focus Features press release stated, "Longbourn" will focus on a romance between a newly arrived footman and a housemaid, the novel's main characters. But then, again, this was based on the Longbourn novel not from the 2005 movie. It'll be interesting on who they cast as the Bennet family and servants.  Here's more about Longbourn from Focus Features article below...
