Today,  February 20th , is the 80th birthday  of  two-time Academy Award Nominee   Brenda Blethyn , best known to us  P&P fans  as  Mrs. Bennet , the five  Bennet girls '  mother  in the 2005  Pride & Prejudice  film. Known for her character work and versatility, she is the recipient of various accolades, including a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and a Cannes Film Festival Award, as well as nominations for two Academy Awards and two Primetime Emmys. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama in 2003. Starting my  P&P (2005) movie's 20th Year Anniversary   celebratory posts... But first, let me just say that although the actual 20th anniversary for Pride & Prejudice (2005) film is not until later (September in the UK and November in the U.S.) this year of 2025, I am starting early and will be celebrating this movie throughout the year. In fact, Focus Features has already started with releasing an official 20th anniversary merchandise at the end of January. Then, they announced an Easter weekend re-release of P&P in theaters and more anniversary screening events have been added/scheduled for this month of May and June . Currently, it's still playing in U.S. Theaters for another extended week (May 1-8, 2025) . It's currently showing in the UK and also in Mexico, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. According to National World ,  Brenda Blethyn   is set to star in a new Channel 4 adaptation of the Barbara Taylor Bradford novel A Woman of Substance. She will appear alongside Outlander star Jessica Reynolds in the new production, as well as Mobland’s Emmett J Scanlan, Gentleman Jack star Lydia Leonard, and This City Is Our actress Leanne Best.

The final season of ITV’s Vera series starring  Brenda Blethyn   (in the title role as Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope ) premieres in the coming New Year’s Day, January 1st, 2025  with 2 part episodes on ITV!
