With Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie now showing in US theaters nationwide (I haven't seen the movie yet, but will do very soon and post my review of it here, once I've seen it) and having seen almost every P&P adaptations ever made, I thought I'd compile and rank (from my current top favorite to least favorite ) here, 7 ( modern retellings/inspired of/variations ) TV & Film screen adaptations of Jane Austen 's classic   Pride and Prejudice   novel sans the 4 main standard P&P  ( 1940 , 1980 , 1995 , and 2005 ) adaptations . They are not included here on this list because this post is all about the variations and modern take aspect of Austen's P&P. I'll probably do a separate post on the standard ones (or combine both) next time.

Updating here with a new post (from my last four previous posts, which I've started about 6 years ago or so back in 2008! ) about The Many Faces of Elizabeth Bennet  to add Lily James as Elizabeth Bennet (in the long list of actresses who played EB since 1940) from the upcoming 2015 release, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies , a  parody adaptation   of Jane Austen 's classic Pride and Prejudice novel.  So, I've created another new post here and updated the previous post. Elizabeth Bennet (later Elizabeth Darcy ) is the protagonist in the 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen . She is often referred to as Eliza or Lizzy/Lizzie by her friends and family. After yesterday's news about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie moving forward and finally going into production , another Jane Austen related film project that's been in development since 2011 that the late Screenwriter/Director Nora Ephron was working on, writing the script and was supposed to be directing the film , but unfortunately, she passed away in 2012. The unfinished script and project has been on hold after the news of Ephron's death, but now it looks like it's back on as “Portlandia” star and co-creator  Carrie Brownstein  has come on board to write   Lost in Austen   movie, based on the original 2008 U.K. ITV series, according to  Variety . The film version will have the same premise as the ITV series, but will be set in Brooklyn, New York (USA) instead of in England and the heroine character will be American (I think...but I don't know about the P&P characters) instead of British.  Skyfall director Sam Mendes , who was once attached...

As the bicentenary of the publication of Jane Austen 's most beloved novel, Pride and Prejudice gets closer...just 10 days from today ( January 28th ), I am posting here more P&P related posts to continue the 200th Anniversary celebration. There were countless TV and film adaptations of Austen 's Pride and Prejudice that were made and whichever version you prefer or your favorite to watch, I thought I'd compile here at least  9 TV and film adaptations I've seen (including the recent hit vlog/youtube series The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and will be posting my reviews here of each P&P version very soon) and post the movie posters and DVD cover ( P&P 1980 and 1995 ) images. As the 200th anniversary publication for Jane Austen 's classic novel Pride and Prejudice fast approaches ( January 28, 2013 ), the TV and Film adaptations for the classic novel seems to keep coming. First, there was Academy Award winner Natalie Portman 's still-in-development Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (she was previously set to star and produced, but dropped out due to scheduling conflict...last I heard, she's still producing this film...no news update for this one at this time). Then, the late Director Nora Ephron was set to direct a film version of 'Lost In Austen' (with her recent death last June, no word if this film version of Lost in Austen will still happen...might be unlikely now, but it's still listed as in-development on IMDB), and the very recent The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (an online modernized version of P&P) starring Ashley Clements is currently playing in Youtube with 71 episodes uploaded here: Watch Lizzie's YouTube chann...

Updated 6/13/12: Unfortunately, no one (eligible) entered this (and the other two) DVD giveaways...I'm guessing everyone already owned their copies of these DVDs...and this giveaway has already expired...so ending all the giveaways, since no one here seemed interested in winning these DVDs. Oh, well...

A few updates and news brief round up on the following Jane Austen Movies coming to TV, DVD, and in theaters soon, later this year, or sometime early next year.

A film version of  Lost in Austen has been in development for a while and British director Sam Mendes has been attached to direct it, but there wasn't any news of when it'll happen and start production until now. Variety reports that director Nora Ephron ( Julie & Julia , Sleepless in Seattle ) will direct “ Lost in Austen ,” a film adaptation of a cult British TV series that aired on the ITV network back in 2008. The plot involves a 21st century London girl (who’ll be a New Yorker in the film), who magically switches places with the heroine of Jane Austen ‘s “ Pride & Prejudice ,” Elizabeth Bennet , and tries to ensure that events unfold as in the novel, but soon finds herself falling for the handsome but surely Mr. Darcy . The original ITV miniseries of the same title ( Lost In Austen ) was written by Guy Andrews . The LIA 2008 cast included Jemima Rooper as Amanda Price, Gemma Arterton as Elizabeth Bennet , Alex Kingston and a pre-” Downton Abbey...

New  Jane Austen adapted or inspired of films for 2010 and 2011 . From a modern Pride and Prejudice to a Bollywood take on Emma ( Aisha ) to a Latina spin of Sense and Sensibility ( From Prada to Nada ). Plus a film version of ITV 's 2008 Lost In Austen (still in development, according to IMDB) to a zombie parody of Pride and Prejudice ( Pride and Prejudice and Zombies ). Looks like there's something for everyone from an often Jane-Austen-novel-adapted-or-inspired-of-films to check out or look forward to soon (starting in August). Here's a list of some JA related films currently filming, in post-production, and or still in-development for a possible release of 2010 and 2011.

A last post for 2009 as we said goodbye to the past year (and decade)...and ring in the New Year 2010 (and new decade ) in just less than two hours (eastern time) from now. Here are more P&P (2005 film) References in Pop Culture (source: via imdb.com )... But first, as you can see in the first image here (to your left), our very own Keira Knightley (aka Elizabeth Bennet from the Oscar nominated Pride & Prejudice (2005) film) was holding a Pride and Prejudice novel (by Jane Austen ) for the READ campaign (for the American Library Association ) back in 2005. I just noticed recently that Keira did this (back in '05) and I saw a huge pic of her on display on the wall in my niece's Elementary School's media/library (I think the same pic is probably on display on every Elem. School's media/library walls around the country).

iTV's new period drama ( 2008 TV mini-series) titled, Lost in Austen is said to premiere on UK's ITV on September . Jemima Rooper stars as Amanda Price - the frustrated romantic who lives for reading and adores the characters in her Jane Austen books. Then one day she discovers a gateway in her flat and ends up being transported to her favourite world, the world of Pride and Prejudice . But is the “true” story in danger of being thrown off track by her presence?
