Great news about Matthew Macfadyen 's hit new series Ripper Street (BBC1/BBC America) , it's been renewed for a second season with an order of 8 episodes (similar to the current series) set for next year, 2014 ! Here’s the official press release from BBC America (via Collider ): SECOND SEASON ORDERED FOR BBC AMERICA’S RIPPER STREET IN 2014 New York – January 29, 2013 -  BBC AMERICA  co-production  Ripper Street  has been ordered for eight more episodes, with the second season set to premiere in 2014 .  Ripper Street  is produced for  BBC   ONE by  Tiger Aspect Productions ,  Lookout Point  and  BBC AMERICA . The gripping series instantly struck a chord with audiences and critics alike, with The Hollywood Reporter saying it’s a “well-acted, well-written and compelling mystery series” and the Los Angeles Times saying it “opens with chilling promise and ends on a decidedly modern note.”

Rupert Friend attended along with Homeland co-stars Claire Danes , Damien Lewis , Timothee Chalamet , Morgan Saylor , David Harewood , Mandy Patinkin , and Jackson Pace at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at The Shrine Auditorium on January 27, 2013 in Los Angeles, California.  Rupert Friend was nominated for Homeland in the Outstanding Performance by An Ensemble Drama Series category (he shared the nomination with his Homeland co-stars), but they lost to Downton Abbey 's ensemble cast (Congrats to Penelope Wilton , who co-stars in the series as Isobel Crawley , who shares the ensemble cast win with her DA co-stars). The movie Austenland starring Keri Russell ( Felicity , The Magic of Ordinary Days ) just competed at this month's Sundance Film Festival 2013 in a Dramatic Competition and nab a worldwide distribution from Sony Pictures , according to The Hollywood Reporter . That means this movie will have a theatrical release (both domestic and international) and very soon! As the bicentenary of the publication of Jane Austen 's most beloved novel, Pride and Prejudice gets closer...just 10 days from today ( January 28th ), I am posting here more P&P related posts to continue the 200th Anniversary celebration. With Joe Wright and Keira Knightley 's third film collaboration Anna Karenina (starring Keira Knightley and P&P co-star Matthew Macfadyen ) earning a similar 4 Oscar Nominations , Thursday,  January 10th (minus Keira in the Best Actress category she was only nominated back in 2006 for Elizabeth Bennet role in P&P ...replaced by Best Cinematography for Seamus McGarvey , who was also nominated for Atonement back in 2008)...just thought I'd revisit, reminisce, and look back from this same month of January ( 2006 ), 7 years ago , when their first film collaboration, my all-time favorite Pride & Prejudice film scored 4 Oscar Nominations (including Best actress nod for Keira ). The 85th Academy Award Nominations has been announced this morning and Joe Wright 's Anna Karenina (starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen ) is nominated for 4 Oscars! Once again, no love for our trio: Keira , Matthew , and Joe (in acting and directing categories)...they're in good company though as lots were snubbed in the Oscar nominations this year. But I'm glad that they didn't ignore Anna Karenina 's tech side (ie. Dario Marianelli , Sarah Greenwood , Katie Spencer , Seamus McGarvey , and Jacqueline Durran ) who worked on its brilliant technical side that deserved to be recognized and nominated. Their nominations, at least made up for the lack of the acting categories and directing. Hope they win it all. UPDATE: Anna Karenina just won 2 Critics Choice Awards tonight!
