Image
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Jane Austen's "darling child," PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, originally titled, "First Impressions," celebrates its biggest milestone, its 200th Anniversary of publicationtoday, January 28, 2013!

Happy 200th Birthday Pride and Prejudice!!!
and Happy 200th Anniversary Elizabeth &Darcy!!!

Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The story follows the main character Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of early 19th-century England. Elizabeth is the second of five daughters of a country gentleman, living near the fictional town of Meryton in Hertfordshire, near London. Though the story's setting is characteristically turn-of-the-19th-century, it retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of 'most loved books' such as The Big Read. It has become o…

Another update here on Then & Now: The Many Faces of Mr. Darcyin continuing with the 200th anniversary celebration ofJane Austen's classicPride and Prejudicenovel, which will be on Monday! Fitzwilliam Darcy, generally referred to as Mr. Darcy, is one of the two central characters in Jane Austen's novelPride and Prejudice. He is an archetype of the aloof romantic hero, and a romantic interest of Elizabeth Bennet, the novel's protagonist. The story's narration is almost exclusively from Elizabeth's perspective; she is portrayed as the sympathetic figure, and Darcy hardly so until the later chapters of the novel—as knowledge and ironic events are revealed to Elizabeth. Usually referred to only as "Mr. Darcy" or "Darcy" by characters and the narrator, his first name is mentioned twice in the novel. [Read more about Mr. Darcy]. Also, check out the following...

Updating here with a new post (frommy last two previous posts, which I just realized I've started about 5 years ago or so back in 2008!) about in continuing with the 200th anniversary celebration of Jane Austen's classicPride and Prejudicenovel, which will be on Monday!
Elizabeth Bennet (later Elizabeth Darcy) is the protagonist in the 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. She is often referred to as Eliza or Lizzy/Lizzie by her friends and family.

Elizabeth is regarded as the most admirable and endearing of Austen's heroines.[2] She is considered one of the most beloved characters in British literature[3] because of her complexity. Austen herself described Lizzy as "as delightful a creature as ever appeared …

P&P Oscar Revisited (Part 2): 4 Oscars Nominations for Keira Knightley and her Pride & Prejudice film 7 Years Ago This Month!

Image
With Joe Wright and Keira Knightley's third film collaborationAnna Karenina (starring Keira Knightley and P&P co-star Matthew Macfadyen) earning a similar 4 Oscar Nominations, Thursday,  January 10th (minus Keira in the Best Actress category she was only nominated back in 2006 for Elizabeth Bennet role in P&P ...replaced by Best Cinematography for Seamus McGarvey, who was also nominated for Atonement back in 2008)...just thought I'd revisit, reminisce, and look back from this same month of January (2006), 7 years ago, when their first film collaboration, my all-time favoritePride & Prejudice film scored 4 Oscar Nominations (including Best actress nod for Keira). As usual though, poor Joe Wright, who always get snubbed by the Academy Awards since P&P movie.

Hereare the 4 Oscar Nominations for Pride & Prejudice (2005) as announced back in January 31st, 2006:

4 Oscar Nominations for Anna Karenina, 5 for Skyfall, and 2 for Flight!

The 85th Academy Award Nominations has been announced this morning andJoe Wright's Anna Karenina (starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen) is nominated for 4 Oscars! Once again, no love for our trio: Keira, Matthew, and Joe (in acting and directing categories)...they're in good company though as lots were snubbed in the Oscar nominations this year. ButI'm glad that they didn't ignoreAnna Karenina's tech side (ie. Dario Marianelli, Sarah Greenwood, Katie Spencer, Seamus McGarvey, and Jacqueline Durran ) who worked on its brilliant technical side that deserved to be recognized and nominated. Their nominations, at least made up for the lack of the acting categories and directing. Hope they win it all.

UPDATE:Anna Karenina just won 2 Critics Choice Awards tonight!
They won their only two nominations...Congrats AK crew!!!
