Pride & Prejudice References in Pop Culture (Part 3)
[Updated 1/29/14: Replaced previous blurry screen caps with better quality ones, fixed dialogue and more...]
I have previously mentioned the Emma Roberts' teen flick, Wild Child in the Pride & Prejudice References in Pop Culture (Part 2) as one of the movies that referenced P&P movie, but I've never seen the movie until now when ABC Family recently premiered it last Sunday. I had DVR'd it, since I didn't get to see it when it aired. Just saw this movie this past Thursday and now I know which parts/scenes from the movie it references P&P movie and mentions Keira Knightley. I thought it was pretty cool and had to laughed at those two brief scenes (including one of the characters sketching one of Keira's Elizabeth Bennet's costumes/dresses and showed pictures of KK as EB from the P&P movie...see screen cap collage I made of it on top, to your left or below), as they were funny, lol. I wish I have the clips to show you and share here, but unfortunately, there seems to be no clips of these two scenes in YT or anywhere else that I could find.
So...
Here are screen caps of the two scenes (which I thought were the funniest scenes) from Wild Child movie...
Wild Child (2008)
Harriet (Georgia King) goes to the social dance dressed as Keira Knightley's character Elizabeth Bennet with two guys (who were actually girls) dressed up as Mr. Darcy (lol), she enters to a music (the opening track titled, Dawn) from the Pride & Prejudice movie, and then recites to Freddie (Alex Pettyfer) one of the "Mrs. Darcy" lines from the movie and pouts like KK...lol!
Harriet: "Mr. Darcy! What a pleasure it is to afford your company.
You may only call me Mrs. Darcy when you're completely, perfectly, and incandescently happy."
In another scene before that, she was drawing a sketch of one of Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Bennet's dress/costume from the movie and she had pictures of Keira as Elizabeth Bennet.
Also, she told the girl to make her dress an exact replica to Keira's Elizabeth Bennet's dress as complete "authenticity" was what she was aiming for, lol. Then, she went on to say, "Charlotte heard Freddie say I look exactly like Keira Knightley."
Plus, an Interesting thing to note here...Georgia King, the actress who played the bad, head girl Harriet in Wild Child (with Julia Robert's neice Emma Roberts and the late Natasha Richardson, who attended the NYC Premiere of P&P movie back in 2005), also she appeared in a small role with P&P '05's Keira Knightley (the very same Elizabeth Bennet and actress her character Harriet wanted to be in Wild Child, lol) in
The Duchess, co-starred with Mr. Darcy himself, Matthew Macfadyen in Little Dorrit and Talulah Riley in the film St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold. Also, a P&P connection too! Wild Child was produced by Working Title Productions, Studio Canal and distributed by Universal Pictures...the same production companies and studio who produced and distributed the 2005 P&P movie.
Updated 1/29/14: Georgia King kept her Austen connections going when she recently co-starred in the 2013 romantic-comedy film, Austenland film starring Keri Russell.
Also, after watching Wild Child, I happened to catch one of the episodes' reruns of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch on ABC Family (again, lol) that same day...and wow, another P&P reference...but this time, they were Pride and Prejudice novel/Jane Austen references.
Check out the screen caps/collage I've also made as well as transcribed the Sabrina quotes mentioning JA and P&P novel. Also, I've included an embedded the YT clip of that particular scene for you to watch (if you haven't seen it yet) below...
Sabrina, the Teenage Witch [TVPG]
"Sabrina, the Muse" (#5.16)
Episode description: When Kevin says that Sabrina was the inspiration for his songs, Sabrina feels like she has to be his muse 24 hours a day.
Sabrina: "Who's my favorite author?"
Kevin: "Ahh...GD Salinger?"
Sabrina: "It's J.D. Salinger. And no, he's not my favorite author. It's Jane Austen. I talked about her on the phone for an hour last night. Didn't you listen to anything I said?"
Then, Kevin bought Sabrina a P&P novel.
Watch the clip of it below...
Kevin: "Well, you really mean a lot to me. And well..."
Sabrina: "Wow, Pride and Prejudice?! You bought this for me?
Kevin: "Nah, I swiped it from the library...I'm kidding."
Updated 10/5/10
Just saw one of the deleted scenes (titled: "What did you do all day?") in Carey Mulligan's An Education film (which she co-starred with former P&P co-star Rosamund Pike) and Carey's Jenny character mentioned P&P and Jane Austen to her two school mates as she read a question for an school related assignment or so.
Jenny: "Show, from any two scenes in Pride and Prejudice, how far it is true that Jane Austen's methods are essentially dramatic."
