Also, both Chatsworth House (in Derbyshire) and Castle Howard (in York) were used as exterior and interior the Darcy's home, Pemberley...
More than 100 cast and crew relocated to Chatsworth for a week in July 2013 to film scenes for the series. During filming, the beautiful South and West facades of the house were used to depict Pemberley's famous exteriors, whilst rooms inside the house such as the Painted Hall, Great Dining Room, Sculpture Gallery and Oak Room were transformed to depict Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth's home. For two weeks in July 2013, Castle Howard was taken over by a film crew as Origin Pictures and the BBC filmed an adaptation of Death Comes to Pemberley, the best selling novel by PD James.
Starring Matthew Rhys, Anna Maxwell-Martin, Matthew Goode and Jenna Louise Coleman, the three part adaptation will be shown on BBC for three consecutive nights from Thursday 26 December. Watch the trailer.

Plus recent Matthew Rhys related articles and interviews (including a couple mentions of Matthew Macfadyen's Darcy portrayal, which Matthew Rhys phrased below) promoting Death Comes To Pemberley...

Matthew Rhys reveals what life's really like as Mr Darcy

As for the critics, he realizes that they will be all too keen to compare his Mr Darcy with the one played by Firth.
“The comparisons will be inevitable. Look at Matthew Macfadyen,” he says, reminding me that the Spooks star also stepped into Darcy’s breeches in the 2005 Pride and Prejudice film alongside Keira Knightley. “Matthew was great and stood up with his own Darcy.”

Matthew was terrified of following Colin Firth as Darcy...

"It's sort of terrifying - I didn't realize the reaction would be so strong. The book and those characters mean such a great amount to so many people. They have this incredible connection and relationship with those characters, who they should be and how they should be played.

"Colin and Jennifer [Ehle] sort of nailed it. Matthew Macfadyen did brilliantly [in the 2005 film], but he was held up in comparison as well. It's scary to play those slightly iconic characters – the ones that people have that relationship with."
