Rosamund Pike's Clash of the Titans 2 film is now officially titled 'Wrath of the Titans'

Rosamund Pike's upcoming film, Clash of the Titans 2 (the sequel to the 2010 Clash of the Titans film) has not released a trailer or production stills yet, but the title of the film is now officially Wrath of the Titans. Rosamund plays the warrior Queen Andromeda, who helps the main character Perseus played by Sam Worthington.

According to Collider:
Warner Bros. has won the battle to use the title of Wrath of the Titans for their upcoming sequel to 2010’s Clash of the Titans. The studio had already settled on the name when the announcement of a sequel was first made, but they ran into a bit of trouble as “Wrath of the Titans” had already been trademarked by comic book publisher Bluewater Productions.

Today it was announced that an agreement has been reached and the studio wil be able to use the moniker after all in exchange for licensing rights to the name. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles), the sequel takes place 10 years after the frist film and finds Perseus (Sam Worthington) called back into action when Zeus (Liam Neeson) is captured by Ares (Edgar Ramirez) and Hades (Ralph Fiennes) in a plot to unleash the titans. The cast also includes Rosamund Pike, Bill Nighy, and Danny Huston.
Wrath of the Titans will be released in 3D on traditional screens and IMAX on March 30th, 2012.

Here’s the full press release:

Earlier this year Warner Brothers announced the sequel to its successful 2010 blockbuster “Clash of the Titans” would be called “Wrath of the Titans.” Problem was, at the time, the name was already trademarked by comic book publisher Bluewater Productions.

Bluewater, who had already published two comic book mini-series under that moniker, recently announced that an agreement was reached with the studio whereby the movie will carry the previously announced Wrath title in exchange for licensing rights to the name.
“It’s a win-win for everybody,’ said Bluewater president Darren G. Davis, “we saved Warner Brothers millions in possible rebranding expenses and Bluewater gets to keep the name for various Greek-themed projects.”

According to Bluewater, several projects are already in the final stages of development including motion comic based on the two previously published graphic novels (2008’s “Wrath of the Titans”.  Also a new graphic novel thru SCB “Wrath of the Titans: Revenge of Medusa”) will be out in February, a new series and a book aimed at juvenile readers by CW Cooke and Ramon Salas. Also in development is a radio drama broadcast from Colonial Radio Theater, which will air in February on Sirius/XM.

Bluewater has also hired a licensing agent Danny Simon from “The Licensing Group” to help develop other related properties such as toys, video games and more.

“We are thrilled to have been selected by Bluewater Productions to represent their titles for licensing. Bluewater Productions has developed action/adventure properties that are highly creative, and the kind of material that has proved so success in attracting fans and generating successful licensing programs.,” said Danny Simon from the Licensing Group.
The movie, which is scheduled to release in 2012, is still officially listed as “Clash of the Titans 2” on IMBD, but Warner Brothers is now free to use the name as the official movie title.  Bluewater’s licensing efforts will not include character likenesses or other materials directly attributed to the film but take a more classic approach.

“Our version of Wrath is being retooled for a younger audience. The original graphic novels (written by Davis and his brother Scott Davis), will stand alone as individual stories, but going forward, our Wrath universe will be more in line with classic mythology,” Davis said. “It’s going to be part action -adventure, part education and all fun.”

Both graphic novels, single releases are still available through traditional retail outlets, comic book shops and several online venues including Amazon.com and the Barnes and Noble online stores. Digital versions of each book are also available on the NOOK and Kindle.

The first Clash of the Titans was a massive hit, and Sam Worthington is returning for the sequel which comes out in March next year, with Nighy joining the cast as Hephaestus.

He said of the movie to Grant: “Clash of the Titans 2, we have a little bit of shooting to do still. It was a very good experience, we were above the clouds in a volcano in Tenerife. I don’t know what I’m at liberty to tell you!

“They’re very, very happy with it. We’re going to do a couple of additional days’ shooting, but it seemed to go very well, I had a very good time with Rosamund Pike who’s on it. Who's very lovely. The director Jonathan Liebesman has done a great job.”
