A third  Downton Abbey  film  with most of the original cast returning including   Penelope Wilton  as   Isobel Crawley  (aka  Lady Merton ) has been announced (by Focus Features and Carnival Films) for a September 12, 2025 theatrical release date!

Very sad to hear (through his son and fellow actor Kiefer Sutherland) today, the passing of legendary and Pride & Prejudice   actor   Donald Sutherland  at age 88 in Miami, Florida (USA). :-(  May our dearest Mr. Bennet , rest in peace.  RIP Donald Sutherland (1935-2024) . The prolific Canadian actor was a recipient of an Honorary Oscar (interesting that he has never been nominated) in 2017. His illustrious career spanned nearly 7 decades! He made over 200 TV & Films including Pride & Prejudice , The Hunger Games Movies, MASH, Ordinary People, The Italian Job, and Cold Mountain to name some.  My deepest sympathy to the entire Sutherland family, colleagues, friends, and fans.  See tributes from his son Kiefer Sutherland , P&P co-star  Brenda Blethyn , and Focus Features (distributor of P&P 2005 film)…

On this day,  20   years ago  ( June 11th, 2004 ),  Matthew Macfadyen   was announced and cast in the iconic role of  Mr. Darcy , opposite  Keira Knightley 's protagonist  Elizabeth Bennet  (Darcy's love interest. See  Keira's retrospect casting announcement here ) in  Joe Wright 's first feature film,  Pride & Prejudice (2005) . On this day,  20   years ago  ( June 8, 2004 ),  Keira Knightley  was  confirmed  to star in the lead as  Elizabeth Bennet  (in which she received both a  Golden Globe  and  Oscar nominations  for  Best Actress  in the role) in  Joe Wright 's first feature film,  Pride & Prejudice (2005) . Also, the first of many  Joe Wright  and  Keira Knightley  films ( Atonement  and  Anna Karenina ) and Chanel TV commercials collaborations together. As I've previously compiled here a few  Joe Wright  past  P&P-era interviews  on his casting  Keira  as  Elizabeth Bennet  in his  P&P  directed film. Celebrating a birthday today ( June 3rd ) is  Olivier Award winner  and  Downton Abbey 's  Penelope Wilton   ( co-stars as   Isobel Crawley ), best known to us  P&P movie fans  as  Mrs. Gardiner ,  Elizabeth Bennet 's favorite  aunt  in the   Pride & Prejudice  (2005) film . She also played  Tom Hollander 's mother in  Wives and Daughters  mini-series and co-starred with  Rosamund Pike  in  W&D  too as well as with her good friend  Judi Dench  in  Iris  and  The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel / The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel  films. Plus, she co-starred with Matthew Macfadyen in Netflix’s Operation Mincemeat .  Miss Wilton  turns  78 years  young today! Happy Birthday Penelope Wilton!
