Watch: Keira Knightley starring in her Broadway debut as Thérèse Raquin; Officially opens today!

Earlier this month, October 1st, Keira Knightley started (with early previews) her Broadway debut in New York City starring in the title role Thérèse Raquin. Today (October 29) is the official opening day of her Broadway play.

Roundabout Theatre Company presents a striking new adaptation of Thérèse Raquin starring Academy Award^®, Golden Globe^® and Olivier nominee Keira Knightley (Pride and Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean film series) in her Broadway debut. Evan Cabnet (Roundabout’s Dream of the Burning Boy) directs.

A quiet young woman with a restless spirit, Thérèse (Knightley) submits to a loveless life at the side of her weak and selfish husband (Tony Award® winner Gabriel Ebert, Matilda), and her controlling mother-in-law (two-time Tony Award winner Judith Light, The Assembled Parties) … until she meets his childhood friend, Laurent (Matt Ryan, “Constantine”). When their overwhelming passion spins violently out of control, they realize that love can be a dangerous game, and sometimes there is no winner.

Based on the novel by Émile Zola, Thérèse Raquin by Helen Edmundson is a tale of love, lust, betrayal and guilt that will leave you breathless.

Recommended for ages 16 and up.

Roundabout Theatre Company has rehearsal photos from its upcoming revival of Émile Zola's Thérèse Raquin, starring Keira Knightley. Directed by Evan Cabnet and using a new adaptation by Helen Edmundson, the production begins previews October 1 and opens October 29 at Studio 54.

Joining Knightley (who takes on the title role) are two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award winner Judith Light (The Assembled Parties) as Madame Raquin, Tony Award winner Gabriel Ebert (Casa Valentina) as Camille, Matt Ryan (Constantine) as Laurent. David Patrick Kelly (Once), Jeff Still (Fish in the Dark), Mary Wiseman (An Octoroon), Glynis Bell (The Winslow Boy), Alex Mickiewicz (Robin Hood), Sara Topham (The Importance of Being Earnest), and Ray Virta (Hedda Gabler).
