Movie News: Joe Wright to direct a live-action feature film, 'The Little Mermaid'
Working Title Films has posted this interesting news on their website (see article in their main page) that they are currently developing with Joe Wright (photo by Working Title) a live-action feature film of Hans Christian Anderson's timeless and beloved fairytale 'The Little Mermaid.'
This adaptation, written by Abi Morgan (Brick Lane, The Iron Lady), will tell the story of the young mermaid who is willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince. The story which has captured the imagination of adults and children since it was first published in 1837, will be the first live-action feature film version to be made in the English language. What do you think? I think this will be an interesting film to see... Can't wait for the casting news for this one! I'm going to follow this and keep you all updated as I love the Disney classic animated film of the same name and JW's a great director with an impressive list of films he directed (4 of them thus far) such as Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, The Soloist, next year's teen assassin thriller Hanna (in theaters April 8, 2011), the upcoming historical drama Indian Summer with Cate Blanchett, and now The Little Mermaid. That's pretty diverse, don't you think? I like JW and I trust he'll do a great job with this film like he did with P&P and Atonement. Looking forward to Hanna next year!
The project will bring Joe Wright back into the Working Title fold having directed his first three films 'Pride & Prejudice', 'Atonement' and 'The Soloist' with the company.
