EW's TIFF '09 Preview: Carey Mulligan is very Impressive in An Education

EW's OscarWatchers Dave Karger and Missy Schwartz give a preview of the most anticipated movies at the Toronto International Film Festival (Sept. 10-19). Part I of their report is about the three female-driven standouts: Precious, Bright Star, and An Education which they say "will certainly have moviegoers buzzing at the Festival and over the next few months."

In discussing An Education, they rave about the film and Carey Mulligan's very impressive performance in the film.

Watch EW.com's video here.

Dave Karger: And another star making performance was from a young actress named Carey Mulligan in a movie called An Education. Also directed by a woman just like Bright Star... this director's name is Lone Scherfig. It's a really an interesting film, takes place in the 50s or 60s with a sixteen year old girl who's kind of precocious. She falls in love with an older man, played by Peter Sarsgaard with a British accent and kinda gets over her head in this new social and emotional world that she's in...and this actress Carey, who's 24 in real-life...I think she was 22 when she filmed it, totally channels this teenage girl and is very, very impressive to watch.

Missy Schwartz: Yeah, and the movie captured so well sort of London right on the brink of the zooming 60s. You know, I just thought it was really interesting how they had her sort of questioning all this things on the verge of the feminist movement what an education is worth. I mean there's a lot of reasons to see it, but she's [Carey Mulligan] #1 and she's so charming and so captivating. You just want to spend time with this person.

DK:
And as an added bonus you get Emma Thompson as her school's headmistress.

MS:
Her headmistress, I know. Wonderful. She's not in it enough, but will take what we can get.
